The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8+ is the perfect balance between price and performance. This little robot packs two optional accessories, a self-emptying dustbin, and an oscillating mopping attachment. Though the price and features look impressive on paper, but despite its popularity, does it really performs well on-ground? Thankfully, this little robot didn’t disappoint us.
Deebot T8+ Design
Most of the robot vacuum cleaners are in circular design and the T8+ is no exception. The circular design makes the vacuum cleaner easy to navigate around different objects in your home. Also, the small form factor makes it convenient to clean under the sofa, desk, and other household items.
The body design is black plastic with a bit of glossy finish at the top. The most futuristic design is the head-mount of the cleaner which is basically the lidar sensor. The sensor shoots laser in 360 degrees dimensions allowing it to map different environments in your house so it can clean safely.
The top of the vacuum features a large panel that opens and allows you to manually empty the dust bin. Now, like other manufacturers, you can pay extra and get compatible accessories with the T8+. You can also leave the dust bin as it is. When the cleaning is done, the robot will go back to its charging station, upon which it will automatically shift its internal bin into the large bin dock. So, cleaning the robot isn’t something you should be doing more too often.
The bottom of the vacuum features 2 large wheels which are considered to travel on all surfaces. We have no trouble with the vacuum stuck on the carpet, tiles, or any other surface.
Deebot T8+ Navigation
The Deebot Ozmo T8+ features a TrueDetect 3D laser for obstacle avoidance and detection. With its infrared sensor and advanced robovac technology, it can easily navigate through narrow spaces and won’t get collide or stuck with any of your belongings.
Compared to the much expensive T8+ DIVI model, which houses a dedicated camera for advanced control, the T8+ performed surprisingly well with sensors. However, the T8+ does battle with mirror confusion. You better get your shiny items away from your floors otherwise, it won’t clean effectively.
To control the robot, you have to download the Ecovacs Home app which gives you all set of options from scheduling to cleaning. You can even define what areas to clean and what to leave behind.
The results of the lidar sensor are much impressive as it overlays your house mapping and gives feedback on which areas and cleaned. It also tells you why the vacuum has not cleaned a specific area and explains if you have an object that is preventing it from entering.
Deebot Ozmo T8+ Performance
Now for the main part, how good is this little guy on the battlefield. Can it really clean your house without hitting your sofa or doors? Let’s find out!
Vacuuming
In terms of suction, the Ozmo T8+ features 4 levels of power. Depending on your floor condition and carpet, you can set the cleaning levels from the Deebot app. For this, you first have to highlight the area from the app, set the duration, power level, and then click on the start button.
One area where Ozmo T8+ lacks a lot is edge detection. At times it bumped into our computer table and sofas. Also, it easily gets distracted if there are mirrors attached to the floor or if it’s too shiny on the ground. The sensors of the Ozmo T8+ often get tricked in this department.
Apart from this, it cleans the floor very well and can help you get rid of all the debris on the floor. Plus, it’s one of the quietest robot cleaners we’ve tested so there’s a plus point here.
Mopping
To use the robot for mopping, you have to attach the mopping unit at the back of the robot with re-washable pads. There are 4 mopping level functions you can start from. One thing we notice is that even if it’s one of the highest settings, it still barely gets the floor wet, so you’re fine with the medium setting as well. That said, the Ozmo T8+ is perfectly usable for small spills and maintenance if you require it after your actual mopping.
One thing worth mentioning here is that Ozmo T8+ is smart enough to figure out if there’s a hard floor and carpet. So, in case if you want to mop your carpet, it will increase its suction power to clean the carpet.
Runtime
Runtime is an important thing to consider when buying a vacuum robot because these little guys aren’t as superior as us humans at cleaning stuff – especially if you live in a large house.
Thankfully, the T8+ comes with a massive 5200mAh battery that can easily last up to 180 minutes of cleaning on a single charge. Also, on a low battery, the robot will automatically return to the charging base, grab some more juice and then finish the job.
Final Thoughts
The Ecovac Deebot T8+ is one of the smartest vacuum cleaners we’ve tested. And that’s without the DIVI technology. While it’s still not perfect at mopping, we’re getting a reliable house cleaning in terms of vacuuming.
The vacuum is small enough to fit in the most place and quiet enough to not get you distracted all the time. The smartphone app is really well made and there are plenty of AI features that can help you with the cleaning process.
Overall, it’s a great vacuum cleaner that comes with an attractive design and plenty of exciting features. If you’re looking for an affordable robot vacuum cleaner for your house, the Ecovacs Deebot T8+ is a worthy recommendation.
